That was a beautiful article. I know I’ll be with the Lord so I haven’t particularly cared where my body would be, but wow, what a comfort to think of being buried on church grounds. I had never made that association before about cemeteries being on church property previously vs separate plots and how it severs the imagery of the association with the anticipation of a Christian’s resurrection to Christ. Thank you for posting this :)

‘For those who are in Christ and their body is in the ground, they are currently at home with Him, ‘

My son passed away in January. He was 16 months old. We did choose to have him cremated however, our motivations behind it. Our decisions behind it was very different. We had a funeral for him. We had a viewing for him. There was a time to grieve there was a time for mourning, and I do have him on my mantle and someday I will probably bury his urn in the cemetery. When you’re a mother who loses a child, the decision you make you hope are the best ones, but our decisions are clearly motivated differently.

But this comment that you made , I guess I’m looking for clarity. Do you believe that my son is incapable of having a resurrected body because he is cremated? Or do you believe that because he’s cremated that he’s not at home with our Lord?

First of all, I am so sorry for your loss.

I do not believe that those who are cremated are incapable of having a resurrected body. Many church martyrs were burned at the stake and I am fully confident that they are absent from the body and present with the Lord, as scripture teaches. As are all saints who die in Christ, no matter what is done with their body.

The sentence you are asking about was specifically in context to that paragraph where in the previous sentence I said "These graveyards filled with the perishable seed that has been sown into the ground". I was referring to one purpose of cemeteries, that they are tangible reminders of our bodies being seeds in the ground. That in a graveyard, the bodies in the ground that belong to Christians are a reminder of the resurrection to come. Those who have been cremated were not in view there.

I hope that provides clarity for you!
